HalftoneWebPAL
HalftoneWebPAL: Halftoning (on the web!) with Points And Lines.
This tool helps you turn pictures into halftoned patterns of lines, dots, and circles. These can be saved as SVG files to send to your pen plotter, or just saved as simple images.
Since it runs in the browser, it's simpler to run than HalftonePAL, and has a range of new styles.
Features
- Load your own images, and apply lots of styles!
- Black and white, or CMYK!
- Change the detail level: lots of tiny lines or a few bold strokes.
- Twenty-five (ish) styles, with a "Browse styles" preview button
- Optimize the pattern to reduce its length, or reduce pen travel time
- Save the pattern as PNG or SVG files.
AI usage note
These halftoning methods are based on years of my personal work, originally in MATLAB (some dating back 15 years!). I used Anthropic's Claude to convert the MATLAB code to Javascript, and to write the UI and general structure.
All the source code is available in this ZIP, or at my github page. This is released under a GPLv3 license.
