HalftonePAL: Halftoning with Points And Lines.

This tool helps you turn pictures into halftoned patterns of lines, dots, and circles. These can be saved to TXT or SVG files to send to your pen plotter, or just saved as simple images.

Features

  • Load your own images, and apply lots of styles!
  • Change the detail level: lots of tiny lines or a few bold strokes.
  • Choose how to arrange the circles:
    • Circle packing, quadtree, random dither, 1D and 2D error diffusion on square or hex grids.
  • Choose what pattern to make from the circles:
    • Dots, circles, tilted lines, scan back-and-forth, connect the points with a Hilbert curve, make a greedy path between points, a greedy loop, a minimum spanning tree, a Voronoi diagram, a Delaunay triangulation, or connect the 3 nearest points.
  • Optimize the pattern to reduce its length, or reduce pen travel time
  • Save the pattern as JPG, SVG, and TXT files.
  • Switch between black and white ink.
  • Hide the largest circles, giving cleaner backgrounds.

And big thanks to @msurguy for compiling the MacOS version! Unfortunately, people with MacOS Big Sur may have trouble running the executable. I'm working on a solution, but for now you can try to follow these instructions to get it running, or download Processing and the source code.

fantastic! that is cool! its unique

Special and new effects and very diverse, at the same time fast and easy

I found the collection I had been waiting for each of them for a long time.

Thank you very much.

I also visited your site. Very interesting and beautiful experiences. A lovely collection of geometric relationships of image components. How good it would be to be able to use the rest of your effects.

The ideas you use are creative, artistic and admirable.

I look forward to continuing to develop this software. If you add other features to it, it will be great. For example, color or Flow-map or guide-map or weight-map or thickness change based on opacity or anything you know better than me.

Thanks again.

Thanks, that's very kind of you!

Thanks for the comments. These are all good ideas, which I'll try to work on.

interesting.

I use the linux version, it works, but here are some suggestions, no idea if this works on windows already:

* keep the directory where I loaded a file also in memory, not only the last file (for animations)

* show thumbnails for folders, not filenames, it's images we are looking at after all

* give the option to select a save folder, maybe optional

* give the option to remove the timestamp from the filename (more for an options menu

* give the possibility to change the output filesize canvas and also keep higher resolutions
